Valeo MB8 8-Pound Medicine Ball Review

Valeo MB8 8-Pound Medicine Ball
Average Reviews:

I'm very happy with this medicine ball. It seems well made, and its deeply textured surface and medium/small size (8.5" in diameter) make it very easy to handle. When I bought this Valeo 8-pound ball, I also ordered a TKO 12-pound ball, which has some distinct differences. The TKO turned out to be much larger: at 11" in diameter, it's even bigger than a basketball, and the texturing on the TKO is not as deep.

All in all, I'm glad I ended up with the combination of one smaller, lighter medicine ball and one bulkier, heavier medicine ball. The larger size of the TKO makes it harder to handle - which is a good thing, because it makes it more of a workout to manipulate it. For exercises like the squat press or medicine-ball curl, I prefer the larger size of the TKO ball, while for exercises more focused on range-of-motion, the smaller Valeo ball is a great tool. If you're considering a pair of these, this might be an option to explore. They both seem equally well made, despite their differences.

But if you're just looking for a mid-weight, easy-to-handle ball, definitely get yourself the Valeo.

Body-Solid Medicine Balls - Black Review

I got the 10 lb ball and the weight is accurate on my digital scale. The handles on the side are convenient for any exercise that you would have to grip the ball.

My only complaint is that the black color seems to rub off the ball. The gloves I use to handle the ball and the carpet I store the ball on are now slightly black.

Harbinger 8-Pound Weighted Fitness Ball with Strap Review

Harbinger 8-Pound Weighted Fitness Ball with Strap

This is a pleasant surprise!I have been using the weighted fitness ball for a few weeks to help work out a shoulder problem. For that, it has been tremendous. But the other benefits that I discovered, really make this item a great value. The value is in the fact that the ball is soft and pliable.I have been tossing it up and catching it in a "claw" grip.Don't let the light weight fool you! After a several reps, you can feel the burn in the forearms and even the delts.

The strap is helpful for the shoulder swing exercises, but gripping the ball while doing them adds another dimension to the work.IF you're serious about shoulder health, GET THIS BALL!!

The ball is made out of soft, pliable, high-quality PVC that's guaranteed not to burst. More importantly, the ball enhances your strength and endurance by helping you isolate specific muscle groups during training. Among the body parts you can exercise with the ball are your hands, biceps, triceps, abdominals, shoulders, hamstrings, quads, and calves. And users will love the ball's high-grade woven nylon strap, which includes a padded handle and Velcro closure for a custom fit. The strap makes it easy to grasp and hold the ball during workouts. Weighted with fine sand and air, the ball--which makes a terrific alternative to metal free weights--is appropriate for any level of athlete.

Valeo WFB4 4-Pound Weighted Fitness Ball (4lb) Review

Valeo WFB4 4-Pound Weighted Fitness Ball
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The good thing about the Valeo Weighted Toning/Fitness Balls is that they are ALL 5 inches in diameter, regardless of the weight size (2lbs up to 10lbs). This means that you can hold 2 10lb. toning balls (one in each hand) while exercising. This is not true of the other toning fitness balls (i.e., gofit and danskin). With the Gofit and Danskin balls, the diameter of the balls increase as the weight increases. So the diameters of the GoFit and Danskin balls are roughly as follows: 6lb=a little under 6 inches, 8lb=a little over 6.5 inches, and 10lb=roughly 7inches versus 5 inches for all of the Valeo balls.

This difference in diameters is really the only difference that I noticed among all of the toning balls. They are all made of soft vinyl, filled with sand and air, and a great alternative to the tranditional hand weights. You can't go wrong buying the Valeo, GoFit or Danskin weighted toning balls.

UPDATED (4/17/06): After using the toning balls for several months, I have found that I actually prefer neoprene dumbbells. Dumbbells are easier and more comfortable to hold and handle. I still think these are good toning balls. But given a choice between a toning ball and a neoprene dumbbell, I would choose a neoprene dumbbell.

Everlast for Her Twist Board Review

Everlast for Her Twist Board
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
(This is the same review I wrote for the Bally Twist Board, but this product is identical except for the color.)

We had one of these when I was a kid too (1960s). All of us kids fought over it (that's probably why my parents made it disappear). Now I can have one of my own. In fact, I have two. You get a better workout with two--one for each foot.

I fell on the ice this winter (rats!) and these little twister boards have been excellent to help work out the pain that still lingers in my right hip. I stand on them while I read and twist gently. I use light weights and dance around on, and off of, them to music. I keep them handy, near the kitchen, so I can use them whenever. I love them.

If you're concerned about them slipping on the floor just use some that Rubbermaid squishy shelf liner stuff underneath them. Hold onto a countertop if you're concerned about balance and turn your legs all the way in and out, together and separatley. You can mess around with weight transfer too--stand on one leg and twist the other or put weight right on the leg and twist. Both ways are fun and good movement increasers. You'll enjoy working your hips, obliques, and lungs (if you really get going) this way. I even put them on my kitchen stool tops and sit on them sometimes.

They're so inexpensive and so fun they're really worthwhile.
