(More customer reviews)I am a gym loving female living in an an urban area.The gyms in the area are small and overcrowded.My fitness goal is to become and stay firm and jiggle free, an appearance usually referred to as 'toned'.This requires a higher number of reps per set.If you've ever tried to do 3 sets of 15-20 reps in a slow and controlled manner in small and crowded gym, you probably been subjected to 'the stare'.You've just sat down, and are starting your first set, and one or more 'people in a hurry' form a line in front of you, and proceed to stare you down until you get off or let them work in.I always let people work in of course, and end up spending my limited time waiting for others.

So, I decided to create a home gym.

In my small urban 1 bedroom, I do not have room for the Lifefitness home cable system of my dreams, so I had to look at other forms of resistance exercises. I already have a commercial quality Lifecycle, so my cardio was covered.I couldn't decide between the Bodylastics clip system and the Deluxe Spri Xertubes, so I bought a set of both.This has been working well, and I'm able to move quickly between the two brands depending on what I'm doing at the moment.

The Bodylastics Max set with DVD is a quality set.The DVD is basically a cardio/resistance all in one workout, rather than a tutorial on how to use the bands, so keep that in mind.You are given a one year membership to their exercise demonstration website, which is helpful, but a little dry and basic.I would rather have the DVD go over the exercises in depth, really showing and discussing how to use the bands.If I could go back, I would have ordered the set without the DVD.

I have pretty strong legs, and ordered the Max set with the 23lb black band for that reason.I am currently using the blue band, (19lbs) on one leg, and the red/yellow combo, (18lbs total) on the other leg for laying down hamstring curls, and will graduate to the black band at some point to push myself.

Why separate bands for each leg?Well, with the door anchor set up you will need at least 4-5 feet in front of the door just for a standing or sitting exercise alone.With a laying down exercise, you will need to probably double that depending on your height, and I don't have that kind of room in front of my door.I have a unique solution, that I will not describe, as it involves the specific layout of my home, but it allows me to stretch out completely and involves using separate bands for each leg. The system is very versatile that way, and you may have to come up with your own creative solutions to make it work for you.

The handles are very sturdy and comfortable, as are the ankle straps.I wouldn't have minded a little more padding on the ankle straps, and when you do leg exercises with tougher resistance you will see what I mean.I recommend thicker knee socks for comfort.Yep, they're goofy looking, but hey, you're at home.

I keep the storage bag looped around my stationary bike handle, and you could keep it looped around anything at arm level.This allows you see into it and dig around easily.The ankle straps and handles are kept in the convenient side pocket of the storage bag, making it easy and quick to find them when I'm doing switch-outs.

The door anchor is solid and large, much more substantial that the SPRI door anchor.I use only a 3 hinge door for absolute safety, and it has worked flawlessly.

All in all, I am very satisfied with this product, and would buy it again.I am already seeing results!

Gaiam Total Body: Cross Train Kit Review

(More customer reviews)At first I wasn't so sure about my purchase, but I watched the little video and it looked really good. I like the instructor and that the workout was filmed outside (it's a nice change of scenery compared to my other workout dvds, which were all filmed indoors). The workout has a "relaxed" feel, the music is really nice and the instructor is somewhat quiet, but the workout itself is not relaxed! I like that about it. I did the whole workout - but you can also do it in segments of upper body, lower body and abs and I really feel like a got a good whole body workout.
I like to keep my workout interesting, and the disc and resistance cord (and the whole dvd in general) are different from your usual weights and cardio.
I struggled at first with inflating the disc, I wasn't sure how much air I needed, and during the workout I had to adjust the air, when I noticed that my disc wasn't inflated enough.
If you want something "different", and not your usual cardio + weights, this is definitely it. The dvd makes me feel like I want to go outside and exercise in the fresh air now.

SPRI Deluxe Handle Xertube Exercise Resistance Band with Door Attachment Review

(More customer reviews)I had to hunt for the Deluxe version of the Xertube on Amazon, and I'm glad I finally found them.I purchased the Blue (heavy) and Red (moderate) and Purple (very heavy).I am a female in decent shape, and used to circuit training at the gym.The Red is a perfect everyday resistance for many exercises, not too hard, not too easy.The Blue is harder, but I'm still getting great use out of it, and I'm glad it's there as I get stronger.I use the Purple for tricep pull ups only at this point.Amazon usually has the red one available on this page with the Super Saver shipping.

The quality on these is excellent, and I strongly recommend upgrading to the cushioned handles.They are easy on the skin, substantial, and my hand doesn't slide around during a workout.

Bodylastics Terrell Owens Super Strong Man Heavy Duty Resistance Bands System with User Book Review

(More customer reviews)I just got my Bodylastics strong man band system and I am just blown away. I literally will never need to buy any other resistance bands unless I suddenly turn into The Hulk or something because these things are HEAVY DUTY, I swear it seems like you could tow a truck with the orange ones and it comes with two of those! I have not attempted to curl all the bands because to be honest with you I cannot even curl both orange ones which REALLY surprised me because I am by no means weak, I can easily curl 65 lb dumbbells for 10 reps. I am so happy I ordered these bands because they are just the highest quality I have ever even seen. The speed of adding or decreasing resistance is really going to come in handy when I do my P90X workouts too which is really awesome. Even the door anchor that it comes with is massive and there is no way that thing could slip through the door, the regular anchors I have seen I have always been to scared to use because they seem like if you pull to hard they will pop right on through the door and savagely bull whip your skin. It comes with an extra pair of handles too so you can have another resistance ready or share your bands with someone. Also two pair of the leg attachment. I know this review is getting long but I just wanted to be as clear as possible when I tell any and everyone out there who may be considering buying these bands that you should do it because you will not regret it at all. If your looking for some seriously hardcore bands that are going to build really explosive power then you have found them. As Forrest Gump said, Thats all I have to say about that.

SPRI Xering Review

The booklet shows helpful stretching, and primarily leg exercises.I expected more options using the ring. We have some exercises using it for abdominal, core and arm strengthening, and none of these were in the book.

(More customer reviews)I was and still am a free weight kind of guy ever since highschool. I moved into an apartment with my girlfriend and found myself in the terrible predicament of having to sacrifice my weight bench and various other equipment in exchange for living space. In so doing I needed to find an alternate workout solution. I came across bodylastics on accident. I am a skeptic by nature but read the reviews and decided why not?
Having owned these bands for the better part of a year I have been able to achieve the same results as those of my weight bench. Not only am I satisfied with the quality of the product I am impressed with how challenging these bands really are! After using these bands I found that I was excersizing muscles that I never could with the weight bench! Don't get me wrong the weight bench has it's place. But not for my goals. For my goals these bands, a stability ball and a Iron Gym Extreme workout bar is really all I need to get the results I want. I also mountain bike for cardio. Being a busy person and usually finding it tough to spend much time working out these bands have proven a great fast solution to saving me time. Their construction is superb and truly do make other resistance bands look weak and frail. I will say you should probably use flat shoes or shoes without a lot of tread. This will prolong the life of your bands. There are books out there that provide info on the excersizes and workout schedules on how to use these bands as well. I am going to be trying the P90X workout here soon. Or at least portions of it.

I was very sceptical, at first.After the first weekend of using it, I have lost a little over an inch on my waist.Suprised me--it really does do the job.

This particular set allows for couples to use at the same time and allows for somebody to have multiple bands set up prior or on the fly.

I'm using them with P90X. I made the mistake of buy other bands that are basically permanent in their weight. With this Strength Bands System by Bodylastics, I have extremely sturdy and versatile bands. And this particular array of bands makes it easy to have two different strength bands ready to go without changing a thing. Even if I had to change the strength, the ease at which makes themeasy to buy these cords.

One of the best thing about the Strength Bands System by Bodylastics, it allows you to attach multiple bands to one set of handles. So, unlike other systems where you have to hold multiple cords with multiple handles to increase the weight/strength, Strength Bands System by Bodylastics allows you to attach multiple bands/cords to one handle.

Lastly, the quality of these cords over those that I bought and sampled at Fitness Outlets is like night and day. While the reputable name bands are well-made and perform as they claim, the Strength Bands System by Bodylastics out-perform these other brands in every category you can think of.

With Strength Bands System by Bodylastics, there are different sets or packages. This particular set I believe is the high-end (which means it doesn't differ in quality but in quantity and multiples). So look for the right set for you and remember, as you go from set-to-set, each colored band or cord is of the same high quality and versatility.

I love these bands. This set came with a gym/travel bag. I can't wait to take them w/me on a trip. One just has to carry around about 4lbs of bands and such to get the equivalent weight of a set of dumbbells.

Ripcords Exercise Resistance Bands - Black Sniper Edition 6-pack Exercise Fitness Equipment Review

(More customer reviews)I bought the 6-pack of Ripcords with Black Sniper band in October 2008 and have used them heavily between then and May 2009.My intention was to use them for auxiliary exercises after my primary workout, and for that purpose they worked perfectly.

The bands themselves: If you lift heavier weights these are fantastic for finishing exercises - they really knock out a burn.If you're just starting out or not into the heavier weights these are also a great choice because they provide a wide range of resistance, require you to use your stabilizer muscles on the exercises, and allow you to perform reps to failure with limited risk of injury (i.e., you're don't have a loaded barbell that you could drop).For what it's worth coming from a regular Joe, I would recommend these for just about anyone.

My experience with the bands:Over time I experienced a problem like the 1-star reviewer below: with heavy use the nylon straps in the handle began to tear through the rubber/plastic part of the handle.This made it uncomfortable, but I solved the problem temporarily by simply rotating the handle so the tear was on the opposite side of the strap.Quick fix, and it worked.

More recently, though, I saw 2 more handles experience the same problem.I'm a reasonably patient person and understand products won't last forever, but this was getting to be too much.So, I decided to contact Ripcords - it was when I was looking on their website to locate their contact info that I was reminded of the LIFETIME WARRANTY on these bands.I contacted them by email and with 2 emails back and forth (all within a day and a half) we had verified my purchase on Amazon and they had given me instructions on how to get replacement bands.

They informed me that they had gone through 2 design changes on their handles since I made my purchase, so the tearing problem had been resolved.I asked if I could get replacements for ALL of the bands I bought since they all had handles that could potentially be a problem.To my surprise, they said yes without hesitation - all I would have to do is pay shipping.Very solid customer service with minimal delays in finding resolution...

In the end, I ordered a whole new set of bands to replace my entire original set - both the busted ones and the rest with the potentially defective handles.They arrived quickly and all I had to pay was shipping.The handles were, indeed, redesigned and built with a sturdier material.The heavier bands even had more reinforcing material visible on the handles, so hopefully all should be well moving forward.

Bottom line: Overall, a pretty good product combined with a pleasant customer service experience - a rarity these days.If you're in the market for exercise bands I would definitely recommend these without hesitation.

**Note: in my opinion, the shipping charges for the replacements was inflated, but it was still a small price to pay for a full replacement set.

**Another note:when ordering the replacements I accidentally ordered two(2) black sniper bands instead of just one (1).I emailed to inform them and ask them to remove the extra one from my order.The reply I got surprised me: they told me to keep it, no charge except shipping!They said I could use it myself or share it with a friend to spread the Ripcords love.:-)

(More customer reviews)First of all, these came ridiculously fast. I ordered after lunch on a Weds, and they were on my doorstep Fri morning before 8am. Amazing.
Second, I am very happy with the bands. The grip is comfortable (even when I'm sweaty), and the bands don't rip the hair off my arms when they rub against me. I am a fairly strong person, and I am able to get some use out of the lightest, more out of the next, and a lot out of the 3rd strongest. I should have have plenty left to go as I get stronger.
Also, I read some reviews on cheaper bands that had a tendency to break at the handle. These have been put through a lot of stress in the last week during my P90x workouts, and they haven't compromised at all.
The door hook is great too, as I've used it to replace the chin-up bar in my videos.
All in all, I would definitely recommend these bands!
