Timex T5H911 Unisex Digital Fitness Heart Rate Monitor Watch Review

Timex T5H911 Unisex Digital Fitness Heart Rate Monitor Watch

I love this watch. I've had it for about 3 weeks now and it does it's job perfectly. I love the zone system. It allows me to run much farther and for longer than I have before because I don't exhaust myself by running faster than my body can manage. The beeping feature (that can be turned off) that features two tone beeps to let you know whether you need to slow down or speed up to stay in your zone allows you to pace yourself without having to look at the watch. This model features a bar at the top of the display that shows the lower and upper limits of the zone you want to be in and where you are within (or outside) the zone. This is particularly useful if you decide to turn the two tone beeps off. Not all heart rate monitors from Timex feature this.

The batteries on the chest strap and the watch can be replaced by the user - an uncommon feature I believe.

The chest strap is quite comfortable and picks up signals very well - my wife tried it and she had no trouble with it either (the strap sits on the lower side of the chest). I found that if I put it on about 15 min before I exercised, my body would generate the sweat needed for good pickup.

Some reviewers have commented that the indiglo feature where the numerals light up (rather than the face) made for difficult reading. I found that if I tilted the watch slightly (rather than place the face at right angles to the line of sight), the numerals were clearly visible. I think I prefer this to the old method of lighting the face.

It is a fairly handsome watch - a bit on the thick side (about 14 mm x 42 mm or so wide) - perfect for a man even for daily wear but certainly large for a woman.

It took me a while to decide on buying this watch. Lack of clear size information (their midsize, large and extra large size indications are meaningless) on the Timex website meant that I had to scour shops and call customer service a couple of times to have them measure the watches for me.

Mio Breeze Heart Rate Monitor Watch Review

Mio Breeze Heart Rate Monitor Watch
Average Reviews:

Get rid of those bulky, uncomfortable chest straps! We finally have a way to determine our heart rate that is quick, easy and portable. This wristwatch lets you find out your current heart rate with just a quick two-finger push.

The watch is a *little* bigger than a normal wrist watch, so I wouldn't wear this to an elegant dinner. Still, wearing it most other places seems quite fine. It has normal date and time functions, so it fully replaces my normal "sports watch" I would wear.

For the heart rate test, it is very easy. You are wearing the watch on one arm - let's say your left arm. So then you would take two fingers from your right hand and press them against the two silvery buttons on the watch's top face. You hold it there for about 5 seconds, and then the system shows you your heart rate.

Also, because you input your weight into it, and your age, it knows your ideal heart rate and shows you the current one as a percentage of your total. So you see at a glance how well you're doing.

I tend to do a number of "active" exercises, and there is NO way I could wear a chest monitor and have it stay on. This is the perfect solution. I go out for a walk, I play Dance Dance Revolution, and no matter what, I can check my heart rate in an instant.

Now, to the issues. First, it *is* a bit bulky. It's a unisex model meaning it's fine for my boyfriend but on me it's a little large. I guess I would rather have gotten a "women's model" - but at the price it didn't make sense to buy two for our family. It made more sense to get one we could both wear. So on one hand it might be a smidge large for a woman, but on the other hand having it be a device we can both easily use is definitely a plus. So I hesitate to complain about this.

Next, it sometimes takes me 2 or 3 tries to get a reading - including spinning it around so the face of the watch is pressed against the inside of my wrist. I tend to have very low blood pressure. If I prick my finger for a blood test, I get a drop maybe before it stops. So I realize completely that I am "not normal" in this sense. That being said, I was just having dinner with a friend of mine who is rather thin, and she had to do the same thing - spin the watch to point towards her inner wrist before she could get a reading. So maybe it's certain people that it has trouble reading. Maybe it's because she wasn't sweating and there wasn't enough moisture to conduct the current. I'm not really sure. So it does work - but it might take a try or two based on your situation and body shape.

So in general I highly recommend the unit. Just be aware if it doesn't work immediately on you that it's not you - it's just an inherent issue with an electrical-sensing device that you wear on a wrist.

About Mio
The story of Mio began in 1999 when it was created by entrepreneur and mother of three, Liz Dickinson. Like many of us, Liz balances family and career, leaving little time for fitness. After several unsuccessful attempts to achieve her fitness goals and shed the pregnancy weight-gain of her third child, Liz turned to a personal trainer for advice. While working with a trainer, Liz realized the key to getting in shape and staying in shape is to practice smart eating habits, monitoring calorie intake, and using a heart rate monitor to ensure that she exercises at the right level. Liz realized there wasn't a product available on the market that would easily help her follow her trainer's advice.
Liz didn't have time to read labels and carry a calorie journal in her purse, nor did she have much patience for the uncomfortable chest strap she had to wear to get her heart rate. She knew there had to be a better way, so Liz used her technology and marketing savvy to create Mio, the world's first heart rate monitor to work without a chest strap. And, it didn't stop with just heart rate, as Mio also has a patented calorie management system that offers a straightforward approach to managing your diet. With the help of Mio and a balanced diet, Liz was able to shed those unwanted pounds and gain the benefits that come with improved fitness: more energy, more vitality, and less stress, and help many others do the same with the creation of Mio's products.

Timex Youth Collection Tween Digital Black Review

I needed a watch that would stay with me all the time but not on my wrist, since a watch on my wrist tends to bother my typing.I tried a pocket watch, which is decent, but I wanted to have something on the outside. This watch is the best I found so far!It is rugged and convenient. It has useful functions such as a down counter, a timer, and an alarm. The display has two positions, the reverse vertical position good for hanging on your belt hook (which is what I do) or the vertical position for hanging on other things (like bags, I suppose). It's also inexpensive. The only thing may be that this thing is not exactly beautiful, but on casual clothing I think it looks just fine.

Mio Drive Petite Women's Heart Rate Monitor Watch Review

Mio Drive Petite Women's Heart Rate Monitor Watch
Average Reviews:

First ever Hear Rate Monitor and I love it.I use it everyday when I workout to keep track of calories burned and can keep track of my progress. It's amazing to see how many calories you actually burn when working out, compared to the false reading on Treadmills and other machines. It's also great to see how your body feels in the different heart rate zones so you know how to read your body and don't fatigue yourself or push yourself too far that you injure yourself.

I recommend this if you're looking for an easy to use heart rate monitor that doesn't require you to look at a manual every time you want to change something on there.

Polar FT7 Heart Rate Monitor Watch Review

Polar FT7 Heart Rate Monitor Watch

I love this product! I have owned several Polar HR monitors. This one is by far the easiest to set up and use - yet still accurately tracks details on multiple workout sessions. The chest strap is a new design that is very comfortable.Only cloth touches the skin; the transmitter snaps onto the front of the strap. The transmitter on my old chest strap irritated the area of my skin were it rested.I have used this new monitor and chest strap combination during biking, step, walking, and strength training.I have not experienced any signal drops outs even when I am bending over.I love the option that allows me to see the heart rate or calories in a large font so that I just have to quickly glance at my monitor while exercising to see my progress.

Timex T5J031 Unisex Digital Fitness Heart Rate Monitor Watch Review

Timex T5J031 Unisex Digital Fitness Heart Rate Monitor Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this watch to replace an older Polar heart rate monitor with dead batteries in the chest strap and the monitor. The design of that product required me to send both units in for replacement by a Polar service center. The cost was nearly as much as the cost of this timex heart rate monitor.

I am so pleased with this product. The instructon manual was clearly written and easy to understand. There are just enough functions for me without loading the product up with things I will never use. That makes using it simple and I can remember how to use it without having to refresh my memory by repeatedly rereading the manual.

The monitor is an excellent watch when not using the heart rate features.Best of all I can change the batteries myself when the time comes without sending the thing off in the mail to a service center.

On top of all that the price was reasonable. This is one of those few purchases that exceeded my expectations because everything that it does, it does a little bit better than I had hoped for.
