Kelly Coffey-Meyer's 30-Minutes to Fitness Bootcamp Review

Idon't usually like mixing cardio and weights in alternating intervals in a workout. I either strength train or do cardio. Another thing I usually dislike is combination strength moves, especially the done-to-death bicep curl while you lunge, or overhead press while you squat. (I do enjoy non-awkward "functional fitness" feeling moves where everything works synergistically like in the TLTs or even with Tony Horton.)

Every once in a while though a really good exception to my "no mixing rule comes" along. Like Patrick's Hard Work Conditioning (I will lunge while doing bicep curls for Patrick) or Cathe's Drill Max (strictly reserved for days when I am feeling invincible).

And now, Kelly's Bootcamp!

The common thing between these workouts in my opinion is that they are so high on the fun factor, besides being well-planned. Kelly's strength moves in Bootcamp are creative. I especially like the kettlebell swing inspired move and the functional-fitness like side-lunge to overhead reach. The cardio is completely uncomplicated and yet manages to feel fresh. You do every cardio or strength drill for two whole minutes. The drills are all so much fun that time flies. I like the music on Kelly's other workouts better, but this DVD has its share of great songs. I have twingy knees lately. I give special bonus points to any workout with pacing/moves that don't make my knees protest. Bootcamp gets the special bonus points. It has plyo, curtsey lunges, squats - and yet the pacing and spacing makes it completely handle-able for my knees.

I like yoga for flexibility. I usually skip stretching on any DVD and pop in yoga. The few exceptions are the stretch on Amy's Rumble, Tracey's Strike Zone and the luxurious bonus on this one.

If I could give away a prize for modifier in a video workout, it would be to Lauren from Kelly's DVDs. Her moves never seem like unimaginative afterthoughts and she puts so much energy and enthusiasm into them. Lauren is great on Bootcamp too.

As in all workouts in Kelly's 30 minute series, you gets tons of value for your money (2 complete 30 minute workouts, complete with warm up and cool down plus the bonus stretch) besides well-designed premixes. Particularly great are the All Strength premix and All Cardio Premix for days when you dont want to mix the two styles.

Kelly Coffey-Meyer's 30-Minutes to Fitness Kickboxing DVD Review

Kelly's 30 Minutes format is a winner. In all the workouts she has made in her 30 Minute series, she includes two main 30 minute workouts, the option to do both 30 minute workuts back to back, as a long and tough one hour workout, bonus material and many versatile premixes.

Both kickbox workouts on this DVD have short routines or drills that you do for a couple of minutes before moving on to the next. So nothing seems repeated for too long. Coupled with the superb music, time flies. The kickbox choreo is fresh and not tricky (particularly if you do the tutorial) and a whole lot of fun. The intensity is great for high intermediate to advanced exercisers but without being "test the very boundaries of your limits" tough.

I find that too-fast kickbox workouts do not allow an emphasis on form and end up becoming hi/lo. The uniqueness of kickboxing for cardio in my opinion should be from throwing punches with the rotational force of the whole upper body and kicking from the power of a lunge or squat. When the pace is too fast there isnt enough time for the whole range of motion of a "real" punch or kick. The pacing in this workout is perfect.

The bonus kick -box themed abs/obliques work on this DVD is my current favorite abs/waist routine. Kelly is at her creative best.

Kelly Coffey-Meyer's 30-Minutes to Fitness Body Training DVD Review

Thirty (30) minutes to fitness series is an excellent choice for those who are in a time crunch and need timesaver exercise DVDs. All you need is your own body weight! It's a good value for what's offered in the menu-included are two workouts, standing and floor and a pre-mix.I would recommend this for the intermediate level because of some of the exercises can be complicated, such as some of the planks and push-ups.

The "standing section" includes squats, lunges, leg lifts; lots of sets and pulses.Modifications are always available. The pace not too fast and transitions are excellent.

The "floor/pilates section" is upper body and strength focused beginning with different styles of push-ups, which I enjoyed. This is also part of the 16 minute pre-mix focusing on strength, abs, and stretch. My favorite move is the push-up with single leg extension.A challenging move was the plank to push-up/downward dog.Be mindful of keeping your middle tight and firm in this move.Watch your lower back.

I'm not too fond of Kelly's strong Jersey accent (?), but she's very creative and fun.I always look for her DVDs as she has wide range to offer.I really enjoys this series more than her other many DVDs.

Kelly Coffey-Meyer's 30-Minutes to Fitness (Weights) Review

Average Reviews:

If you like heavy weights, this workout is for you! Without looking closer one might think this DVD has only a 30-minute workout. Not so. The main components are: 30 minutes legs/chest/back, 30 minutes bi/tri/shoulders, ab section, 2 different warmups and stretch. Additionally, there are several different premixes, some of them using standing ab routines as 'rest' periods in-between the weight sections, others using cardio in-between. You get a complete body workout with lots of variety on this awesome DVD. All along Kelly encourages to go as heavy with your weight as you can handle. The time just flew by for me. I love it!
